Research firmly establishes the significance that beginning teachers place upon the support provided by their more experienced colleagues and the importance of quality professional development in the successful induction into teaching. Undertaken for the first time in 2005 as a professional learning event by STANSW, feedback from teachers in the course indicated that it was highly valued in assisting them to increase their teaching expertise and skills.
The course also provides opportunities for early career teachers to discuss current issues in education. It enables participants to form partnerships and alliances that will enhance excellence in teaching and learning.
The program assists early career teachers achieve the competencies at Proficient Teacher Level. The course provides 20 hours of professional development throughout the year.
