ASME NSW offers this half-day TeachMeet that will present new ideas for game composition and app sharing. The first session will workshop information on the new program called GameComposer. Teachers engage with the concept-based practical activities, composition, performance and listening tasks so their students can build their digital portfolio, having devised their own game characters and music, action scenes and sound design. The program takes students in years 8–10 on the journey through video game composition and creation from the 1970s to now, as they learn the cultural, social and historical aspects of the genre as well as aural and compositional techniques and analysis skills associated with this hugely popular topic. The course will continue with teachers sharing their practice in music. Andy Mifsud, teachers from the Orange Region, Kirsten Macaulay and Andrea Van den Bol will present on school practices that take in film music composition, uses of apps in the music classroom, assessment and cross curricular initiatives that affect music.
